Akool AI review 2026: face swap, avatars, pricing and red flags
Akool AI bundles face swap, avatars, translation and top video models from $12/mo. Reviewers like the output, but billing complaints and Trustpilot flags need care.

Our verdict on Akool AI
Akool AI is a capable all-in-one studio for face swap, avatars, translation and AI video, and reviewers like its output. Creators and marketing teams who want many models in one place should try the free plan; skip it if you need predictable billing, cash refunds or cheap commercial rights, and only ever swap faces with consent.
Pricing Free (watermarked, 720p); Starter $12/seat/mo; Pro $21/seat/mo (discounted from $30); Pro Max $41.30/seat/mo (from $59); Business $174.30/seat/mo (from $249); Enterprise custom
Visit Akool AIShort version for the AI Overview crowd: Akool AI is a web-based studio that bundles face swap, talking avatars, video translation, an AI image generator and a hub of third-party video models (Seedance, Kling, Wan and others) behind one credit system. It's free to try, paid plans start at $12 a month, and the creative tools get solid reviews. The big asterisk in late October 2026 is trust: Trustpilot has pulled Akool's rating over fake reviews, and a run of recent one-star posts describe charges people say they never authorised.
Let me be upfront about how this review was made. Nobody on our team ran hands-on tests, so you won't find stopwatch timings or screenshots of my own swaps here. Instead, we went through Akool's official pricing page, terms and help docs, other reviewers' hands-on write-ups, Capterra ratings and around 35 recent user reviews, all as of late October 2026. Where someone else did the testing, I'll name them.
And because Akool does face swap, one thing before we start: only swap faces you have the right to use. Yours, a consenting friend's, or licensed footage. More on that below.
What is Akool AI?
Akool is a Palo Alto company (its Trustpilot company profile lists 471 Emerson St.) that sells what it now calls a "Premium AI Video Suite". Its homepage leads with 4K video from Seedance 2.5, a new Wan 3.0 model, an AI Model Hub that offers "Seedance, Kling, Wan, and top AI video & image models" in one place, a free AI image generator, streaming avatars and face swap. It also sells an API for businesses.
That's a big shift from where Akool started. Earlier reviews, like Unite.AI's, framed it as a marketing tool built around face swap, avatars, video translation and talking photos. In 2026 it reads more like an all-in-one creator platform, with Akool's own avatar and face tech sitting next to other companies' generation models.
Is that good? Mostly. One login and one credit wallet for a dozen tools is handy. But it also means you're often paying Akool for access to models you could use elsewhere, so the value question comes down to price per credit and how much you'll actually use.
Key features
Face swap for photos and video
This is still Akool's best-known tool. According to Akool's help centre, you upload an image or video, the tool detects faces, you pick the one to replace, upload a replacement face, choose a model and optionally re-age it. Akool says FS-1 Omni "will generally be the best model for realistic swaps", photo swaps are instant and video swaps take "a few seconds to minutes".
Reviewers like it. Unite.AI called the face swapping "high-quality" and realistic, and Filmora's review (written by a competitor, so weigh that) still named it "one of Akool's best features", saying it handles lighting transitions better than many alternatives. A recent Trustpilot reviewer put it more bluntly: "The face swap is honestly insane, looks so real compared to other apps."
The consent bit, plainly. Use face swap for things you have permission for: your own photos, a friend who's said yes, marketing footage with signed releases, or licensed content. Making intimate, sexual or deceptive images of real people without their consent causes real harm, and it's illegal in many places. Akool's terms of service ban using the service in a way that infringes anyone's privacy or publicity rights, ban impersonating any person, and ban content "intended to misrepresent, mislead, or misinform". We'd add one note: the same terms carve out adult content created "for educational, scientific, documentary, or artistic purposes", which is looser than some rivals. That's not a licence to put anyone's face anywhere they haven't agreed to.
Akool AI avatar and streaming avatars
The Akool AI avatar tools come in a few flavours. There's a library of stock presenters, Instant Avatars you make from your own footage, Studio Avatars on the Business plan and Ultra Avatars for Enterprise, according to the pricing comparison. Streaming avatars, which talk back in real time, are the headline: the homepage pitches an avatar that "sees you, understands your world, and responds in real time".
Akool's stock avatars are based on real actors, and the terms add extra rules for them. Without Akool's written consent you can't use them in paid social ads, TV broadcasts or NFTs, or have them state opinions or "facts" about religion, politics, race, gender or sexuality. If you're planning ads, budget for a custom avatar of someone who's agreed to it.
Video translation and dubbing
Akool translates and lip-syncs videos into what the pricing page lists as 155+ languages, with proofreading, voice cloning, caption files and a "voice dictionary" on paid tiers. One Capterra reviewer singled out "real-time video translation, lip-syncing, and multilingual voiceovers" as the highlight. If dubbing is your main job, our guide on how to make dubbing with AI walks through the process step by step.
Akool AI image generator and model hub
The Akool AI image generator is pitched as free on the homepage, with text-to-image and image-to-image and access to outside models. The pricing page measures credits in "Nano Pro" images and Kling 3.0 videos, which tells you how much of the platform now runs on third-party models. One Trustpilot user who uses it for social posts praised the "prompt assistant which write prompts and enhance my prompts". If images are your priority, compare it with the picks in our best AI image generators roundup, or see our list of tools to merge two images with AI.
Video generation, Video Agent and Agentic Canvas
Every paid plan includes "Video Agent & Agentic Canvas" access, plus video models such as Seedance and Kling. User reports here are encouraging but uneven. One Trustpilot reviewer who mostly used Seedance 2 and 2.5 said Seedance 2.5 "gave me the best results overall", but added that "credits go pretty fast" and some clips needed several tries. Another praised the email alert when a render finishes but wanted to know why generations sometimes fail.
Akool AI pricing and plans
Here's what Akool's pricing page shows, checked October 2026. Pro, Pro Max and Business were all displayed with a "30% OFF" label, so I've listed both the discounted and full prices.
| Plan | Price | Credits per month | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited | 720p, full-screen watermark, 10-minute max video, 5 GB storage, 5 free minutes of live face swap and streaming avatar |
| Starter | $12/seat/mo | 200 | Up to 1080p, all face swap models, no watermark, personal licence |
| Pro | $21/seat/mo (from $30) | 600 | All SOTA video and image models, up to 4K, 30-minute videos, fast processing |
| Pro Max | $41.30/seat/mo (from $59) | 1,200 | Up to 8K, API access, workspace collaboration, Studio Voice |
| Business | $174.30/seat/mo (from $249) | 6,000 | Business licence, one fine-tuned Studio Avatar, fastest speed |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Credits don't expire, SSO, Ultra Avatar, dedicated success manager |
What the free plan really includes. Enough to see whether you like the results, not enough to publish anything. You get a full-screen watermark, 720p output, slow processing, 30-second video face swaps (150 MB max) and five text-to-speech uses in total. There's no licence listed for free outputs, and even Starter and Pro are marked "personal". If you're making client or brand work, the comparison table only shows a business licence from the Business plan up.
A few things in the terms are worth knowing before you hand over a card:
- Credits don't roll over. Credits bought for a subscription period "shall not roll over" and must be used in that period (Enterprise is the exception).
- Trials auto-convert. You need to cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends, or you're moved to the paid plan.
- Overdraft charges are final. An optional Dynamic Billing feature lets you dip past your credits, and those charges are "final and non-refundable".
- No cash refunds. Refunds from fee disputes come back as account credits, "in no event shall there be any cash refunds", and disputes must be raised within 30 days.
That's tighter than HeyGen, whose pricing page says paid credits roll over for a month.
Performance and independent testing
Since we didn't test Akool ourselves, here's what people who did reported.
Unite.AI turned its reviewer into Jack Sparrow with face swap and said the result "was processed quickly and looks realistic". Its verdict praised the tools but warned about "long wait times on the free plan" and a credit system that can get expensive with frequent use.
Filmora's review found the interface clean but "a little overwhelming" once you see how much is packed into the dashboard, and said longer or detailed videos need more back-and-forth. It also flagged that a 10-second face swap video can cost up to 10 credits, and warned that "Akool AI mod APK" sites claiming unlocked premium features are illegitimate and a security risk. Good advice: don't download those.
On Capterra, Akool holds a 4.7 out of 5 from 21 reviews, with ease of use at 4.8, customer service at 4.3 and value for money lowest at 4.2. The most common gripe there is processing time on advanced features like translation and video generation.
On Trustpilot, things get messy. Akool's page shows 436 reviews, 72% five-star and 12% one-star, but a banner says "This company's rating is unavailable due to a breach of our guidelines" and that Trustpilot has "removed a number of fake reviews for this company". Many recent five-star reviews are short, generic posts from accounts with a single review. Meanwhile, the one-star reviews from September and October 2026 keep describing the same thing: charges from AKOOL.COM that the reviewers say they never authorised, in one case "14 separate AKOOL.COM transactions in a single morning, totalling $1,588". Akool replies to each, and at least one reviewer updated their post to say all the charges were refunded. We can't tell from the outside what's behind these reports. But if you sign up, check your statements and use a card you can easily freeze.
Speed complaints also show up. One Trustpilot user wrote in July that they'd been "waiting over 12 hours for multiple results to finish". Others call it fast. My read: it depends heavily on plan tier, since the pricing page ties processing speed directly to what you pay.
Who it's for
- Creators who want lots of models in one place. If you'd otherwise juggle separate subscriptions for face swap, avatars and video models, Akool's hub is convenient.
- Marketing teams localising video. Translation with lip-sync in 155+ languages and streaming avatars are Akool's most business-ready features.
- Developers. API access starts at Pro Max, which is cheaper than many enterprise-only avatar APIs.
Who should skip it? Anyone who needs predictable costs, cash refunds or a commercial licence on a small budget. And, obviously, anyone hoping to use face swap on people who haven't agreed to it.
Akool AI alternatives worth considering
- HeyGen is the closest rival for avatars and translation. Its pricing starts with a free plan (three watermarked videos a month) and Creator at $29 a month, with credits that roll over one month. Read our HeyGen review for the full picture.
- Synthesia suits corporate training. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 10 minutes of video a month and Starter at $19 a month.
- A dedicated face swap tool. If face swap is all you need, our ranking of the best AI face swap video tools compares cheaper single-purpose options. For general video generation, see our best AI video generators.
Verdict
Akool AI does a lot, and reviewers generally agree the face swap and avatars look good. The Akool AI image generator and model hub make it a decent one-stop shop if you're happy living inside a credit system.
But I can't give it a clean bill of health. Credits expire monthly, refunds come back as credits rather than cash, the business licence sits behind a $174-a-month plan, and the Trustpilot situation, with a suspended rating and a string of unauthorised-charge reports, is a real red flag. I'd score it 3.5 out of 5: try the free plan, start on Starter if you like it, keep a close eye on your bank statements, and only ever swap faces with consent.
FAQ
What is Akool AI?
Akool AI is a web-based AI video and image platform from Akool Inc. in Palo Alto. It combines face swap, talking and streaming avatars, video translation with lip-sync, an AI image generator and access to third-party video models like Seedance, Kling and Wan, all paid for with one monthly credit allowance.
Is Akool AI free?
Partly. Akool has a free plan, but outputs carry a full-screen watermark, are limited to 720p and process slowly. You also get only five text-to-speech uses and short face swap clips. Paid plans start at $12 a month for Starter, which removes the watermark, as of October 2026.
Is Akool AI safe and legit?
Akool is a real, US-registered company with a business API and a 4.7 rating on Capterra. However, Trustpilot has suspended its rating after removing fake reviews, and several recent reviewers report charges they say they didn't authorise. Use a card you can freeze and check your statements.
Can I use Akool face swap on other people?
Only with their consent or when you hold the rights, such as licensed footage or released talent. Akool's terms ban impersonation and violating privacy or publicity rights. Making intimate or deceptive images of real people without consent is harmful and illegal in many places.
Does Akool AI have a mobile app?
Sources disagree. Filmora's review describes Akool as browser-only with no official mobile app, while a September 2026 Trustpilot reviewer mentions using a mobile app. Either way, avoid "Akool mod APK" downloads claiming free premium features, which Filmora warns are illegitimate and risky.

What users are saying
We read about 35 recent reviews: roughly 29 on Trustpilot (June to October 2026, including its one-star filter) and 6 on Capterra. Positive reviews praise face swap realism, the range of models and ease of use, though many Trustpilot five-star posts are short and from single-review accounts, and Trustpilot says it removed fake reviews. Negative reviews centre on charges reviewers say they never authorised, plus slow or failed generations. Because we deliberately read the one-star filter, this sample is more negative than Trustpilot's 72% five-star share.
