Nifty AI is a practical AI layer on a well-rated, flat-priced project management tool, strongest for agencies and cross-functional teams that want chat, docs and tasks in one place and their own assistants working via MCP. Skip it if you need deep reporting, strict document control or a large integration catalogue.

Here is the short version. Nifty AI is the set of generative features built into Nifty, a project management app that combines tasks, docs, chat and timelines in one workspace. The AI (Nifty brands it Orbit AI) turns a prompt or a pasted spec into a full project, drafts documents and converts chat messages into assigned tasks, and a newer MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Cursor work inside your Nifty workspace. It is a useful layer on a solid, fairly priced tool, not a standalone AI product.

Nobody on our team ran a hands-on test for this review. We compared Nifty AI using Nifty's official pages and help center, an expert review from The Digital Project Manager, and about 25 recent user reviews on Capterra, as of late October 2026. Where someone else did the testing or the judging, we say who.

One naming note before we start. If you search for "nifty ai" or the "nifty ai app", you will also find stock trading signal apps for India's Nifty 50 index and an old NFT tool. This review covers Nifty the project management platform from Nifty Technologies, Inc., at niftypm.com.

What is Nifty AI?

Think of Nifty as a workspace that tries to replace four or five tabs: a task board, a docs tool, team chat, a file store and a timeline. Its pricing page pitches it as "One subscription does the work of five." The AI sits on top of that workspace rather than beside it.

According to the Nifty Help Center, Orbit AI is "integrated across our system" and works in three places: project creation, docs and tasks. In 2026 Nifty added a fourth piece, an MCP server that connects outside AI assistants to your workspace so they can read and update your projects.

A simple mental model:

  • Inside Nifty: AI generates structure (projects, statuses, custom fields), content (docs) and tasks (from prompts or messages).
  • Outside Nifty: your own assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor) uses MCP to pull status, file tasks and write docs into Nifty, within the permissions you grant.

The pages we read do not say which large language model powers Orbit AI, so treat model quality as an unknown you should check in a trial. If you are new to the idea of assistants that take actions, our explainer on agentic AI covers the basics.

Key features

AI Workflow Builder (project generator)

This is the headline feature. You describe the work in a sentence, or paste a project outline, scope of work or functional specification, and Nifty builds the project: views, statuses, lists and typed custom fields. The AI Workflow Builder help article gives concrete examples. A real estate agent gets statuses like New Lead, Showing / Touring, Offer Made and Under Contract, plus fields for commission, close date and property type. An engineering team gets Backlog, In Progress, In Review and Shipped, with story points and target release.

Two details matter more than the demo. First, you see a preview of everything (including a Kanban or List board view) before the project is created, and every item stays editable. Second, fields come through "already set to the right type": a commission as currency, a date as a date. Nifty's own explanation is the right one: it "can only total, sort and filter a field when it knows what kind of field it is." Typed fields are what make the generated project usable for reporting later, so this is more than cosmetic.

Nifty also says the builder "reads the whole document, so there is no need to summarise it first." That is a vendor claim; long or messy specs are exactly where AI extraction tends to miss items, so check the output against the source.

Document generator

You describe the document you need (a project outline, key documentation, a contract), Nifty then shows fields specific to that document type, and it generates the doc from your answers, per the Orbit AI help page. The form step is a sensible design choice: structured inputs usually produce more relevant drafts than a single open prompt. Anything legal, such as a contract, still needs human review before anyone signs it.

Task generator and message-to-task

Orbit AI can write task content directly, or convert a message from a project discussion or direct chat into a task. Nifty says it "will automatically assign due dates, team members, and populate custom fields based on the details of the message being converted." Because Nifty already holds your chat and your tasks in one place, this saves the copy-paste step that a separate chat tool forces on you.

Nifty MCP server

This is the most interesting addition for 2026. Nifty's MCP help article says your assistant can get project status, create tasks with owners and due dates, draft and file docs, find tasks with no assignee or due date, and post into project discussions or DM a teammate. Its scope covers portfolios, projects, lists, statuses, tasks, tags, dates, dependencies, custom fields, docs, messages, goals, forms and members.

The controls are reasonable. MCP is off by default. Your assistant connects with a scoped token, not your password, and cannot exceed your own role. You choose Read only (the default and recommended), Full access or Custom. Tokens can last up to 365 days, and Nifty says if you revoke one, "Access stops within about a minute." One caveat Nifty states plainly: in-scope data is shared with whichever AI provider you connect, under that provider's terms.

In an August 2026 blog post, Nifty frames the goal as making the workspace "the shared operational memory for the whole team", so that work done by several people's agents lands in one place. That is a fair diagnosis of a real problem. It is also a company describing its own product, so judge it on how it behaves with your assistant.

The project management base

The AI is only as useful as the workspace underneath it. Nifty's plans include tasks, milestones, discussions, docs, files, team chat, portfolios, recurring tasks and task dependencies even on Free, with time tracking, custom fields, budget tracking, workflow automations and file proofing from Pro, according to the pricing page. The Digital Project Manager also lists Gantt charts, automated progress reporting and integrations with Google Drive, Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Dropbox, Webex and Zapier.

Nifty AI pricing and plans

Nifty prices the whole workspace, not the AI. Its headline is "No per-user fees": paid tiers are flat team prices, with a per-member option for small teams. Prices below are from the official pricing page, checked October 2026.

PlanPriceMembersStorageActive projects
Free$0 foreverUnlimited100 MB2
Pro$79/month, billed annually (or $10/member/month for teams under 7)10500 GB100
Business$124/month, billed annually (or $16/member/month for teams under 7)301 TBUnlimited
Unlimited$399/month, billed annuallyUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustomCustom

Other terms worth knowing: every paid plan has a 14-day free trial with no credit card, annual billing saves up to 20%, and eligible students, educational institutions and non-profits get 50% off Pro and Business. If a trial lapses, projects stay intact but locked until you subscribe. Expert reviewers quote prices differently; The Digital Project Manager lists Nifty "From $16/user/month", which matches the per-member Business rate rather than the flat Pro price.

What the free plan really includes

The free plan is genuinely usable for a trial run: unlimited members, tasks, milestones, discussions, docs, chat, dependencies, two-factor authentication and Google SSO. The hard limits are two active projects and 100 MB of storage, which a team sharing files will hit quickly.

The bigger gap is that the pricing page does not list Orbit AI or the MCP server as a plan feature at all, and the help articles we read do not say which plans include them. Before you commit, confirm in the trial which AI features your plan unlocks and whether any usage caps apply.

Worked example: a 10-person team

Flat pricing is where Nifty is easiest to justify. Using list prices checked in October 2026:

  • Nifty Pro: $79/month billed annually for 10 members, so $7.90 per person, with Orbit AI built in (plan coverage to be confirmed, as above).
  • ClickUp Unlimited plus its AI add-on: $7 per user per month billed yearly, plus $9 for the AI tier, per ClickUp's pricing page. For 10 people that is $70 + $90 = $160 a month.
  • Asana Starter: $10.99 per user, per Asana's pricing page, or about $110 a month for 10 people, with a capped allowance of AI requests.
  • monday.com Basic: monday's own example on its pricing page works out to $90 a month for 10 seats billed annually, with AI paid for through credits.

The catch is the step at 11 people. Pro covers 10 members; the 11th pushes you to Business at $124/month for up to 30. That is still cheap per head at 25 people ($4.96), but poor value at 11 ($11.27).

Performance and independent testing

We found no published, independent hands-on test that isolates Nifty's AI features, so this section relies on expert and user assessments of the platform as a whole.

The Digital Project Manager, in a review by Galen Low last updated on October 21, 2026, says the publication evaluates tools "using hands-on testing and independent research". Its verdict is positive: it calls Nifty's interface "uncluttered" and suggests it as an option "if ClickUp feels too complex for your team's current needs". Its listed cons are that the "Mobile app lacks some desktop features and views", the Gantt chart "lacks advanced customization options" and activity logs "can be limited for deep audit needs". It also notes that "you might notice fewer niche app connections than some rivals."

On Capterra, Nifty scores 4.6 out of 5 from 440 reviews, with 4.5 for both ease of use and customer service. In the US App Store, Nifty: Manage Projects & Tasks averaged about 4.3 from 45 ratings when we checked Apple's listing data in October 2026, a small sample.

What users say, in their own words:

  • A real estate CEO on Capterra (January 2026): "Once we got past the initial setup and learning curve, it actually reduced confusion and made it easier for everyone to know what they should be working on."
  • A non-profit director (January 2026): "The learning curve, particularly for less tech savvy employees, has been quite high, and at times prohibitive for adoption."
  • The same real estate CEO on docs: Nifty Docs "felt basic compared to the rest of the platform and lacked version control and document locking".
  • A long-time user on Capterra praised the speed ("UI is very fast") but added: "They need to improve their support follow-through and resolve tickets."

Note that some Capterra reviews are marked as vendor-referred or incentivised, which tends to push averages up. Very few of the reviews we read mention the AI features at all, which suggests most buyers still choose Nifty for the core project tool.

Where it breaks

Every AI layer has failure modes. These are the ones to plan for with Nifty:

  • Generated structure is a draft, not a plan. The Workflow Builder guesses statuses and fields from your description. For an unusual process it will produce something generic. Budget time to edit, and compare it to your real workflow before inviting the team.
  • Message-to-task inference can misfire. Auto-assigning owners and due dates from a chat message depends on the message being clear. "Can someone look at this by Friday?" has no obvious owner. Review auto-filled fields before relying on them.
  • MCP write access multiplies mistakes. A Full access token lets an assistant create, update and delete anything the server supports. One bad prompt across many projects is a bad afternoon. Start with Read only, then use Custom scopes for writes.
  • Docs are the weak link. AI-generated docs land in Nifty Docs, which at least one reviewer found basic, with no version control or locking. Teams that need formal document control may keep docs elsewhere.
  • Unclear AI plan coverage. As noted above, the official pages we read do not state which tier includes Orbit AI or any usage caps.

Nifty AI alternatives worth considering

ClickUp

The closest feature match, with more depth and more complexity. ClickUp has a free plan, Unlimited at $7 per user per month billed yearly, and a separate AI tier at $9 that includes its Brain assistant and access to models such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, per ClickUp's pricing page. Choose it if you want more AI inside the tool and do not mind the learning curve.

Asana

Better known, with a broad integration list. Asana's free plan covers list, board and calendar views, and Starter at $10.99 includes "AI Teammates and Asana Dash" with "5 requests per user per month, up to 50 requests per account", per Asana's pricing page. Our Asana AI review goes deeper.

Notion

Stronger for documents and wikis, which is Nifty's weak spot, with agents and AI built around pages and databases. Read our Notion AI review for current plans and credit rules. monday.com is a fourth option if you prefer its board style; its AI runs on credits included in paid plans, per its pricing page.

Verdict: who should use Nifty AI and who should skip it

Nifty AI earns a 4 out of 5. The AI Workflow Builder solves a real setup problem, typed custom fields make its output usable, and the MCP server is a well-controlled way to let the assistants your team already uses work in one shared place. The platform underneath is well rated (4.6 on Capterra from 440 reviews) and priced flatly, which is good value for teams of around 7 to 10 people or 20 to 30 people.

Use it if you run client or cross-functional projects, want chat, docs and tasks in one tool, and like the idea of Claude or ChatGPT filing work into your board. Skip it if you need heavy reporting, strict document control or a large integration catalogue, or if your team size sits awkwardly just above a plan limit. Either way, use the 14-day trial to confirm exactly which AI features your plan includes.

FAQ

What is Nifty AI?

Nifty AI, also called Orbit AI, is the generative AI built into the Nifty project management app. It builds projects from a prompt or a pasted spec, drafts documents from a short form, writes tasks and turns chat messages into assigned tasks. A separate MCP server lets assistants like Claude or ChatGPT read and update your Nifty workspace.

Is Nifty AI free?

Nifty itself has a free-forever plan with unlimited members, two active projects and 100 MB of storage. Paid plans start at $79/month billed annually for 10 members, or $10 per member for teams under 7. The pricing page does not say which plans include the AI features, so check during the 14-day trial.

Is there a Nifty AI app for phones?

Yes. Nifty has iOS and Android apps plus Mac and Windows desktop apps, according to its pricing FAQ. The US App Store listing averaged about 4.3 from 45 ratings in October 2026. Reviewers note the mobile app lacks some desktop features, so plan to do AI-heavy setup work on desktop.

Can I connect ChatGPT or Claude to Nifty?

Yes, through Nifty's MCP server. You create a scoped token in Settings, under MCP & AI Assistants, and choose Read only, Full access or Custom permissions. Tokens can last up to 365 days and can be revoked any time. Data your assistant reads is shared with that AI provider under its own terms.

Is Nifty better than ClickUp?

It depends on what you value. The Digital Project Manager suggests Nifty if ClickUp feels too complex, praising its cleaner interface and easier onboarding. ClickUp offers more AI features inside the tool but charges separately for its AI tier. For a 10-person team, Nifty Pro's flat $79/month is cheaper than ClickUp Unlimited plus AI.
