Poe AI review 2026: features, pricing, free plan and is it worth it?
Poe AI puts GPT, Claude, Gemini and more behind one points balance. We review its features, plans, free tier limits and who should pay.

Our verdict on Poe (Quora)
Poe is a strong multi-model comparison tool with a current model list and a handy API, but its points meter makes heavy frontier or video use expensive and hard to predict. Use it if you switch models often; skip it if you mostly use one model heavily.
Pricing Free (about 300 points/day); Starter $4.99/mo (10K points/day); Premium $19.99/mo (660K points/mo); $49.99, $99.99 and $249.99/mo tiers; about 17% off annually
Visit Poe (Quora)Here is the short version. Poe AI is Quora's multi-model chat app: one account and one balance of "points" that you spend across GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and thousands of other bots. It is free to start, paid plans run from $4.99 to $249.99 a month, and in late October 2026 it is a useful tool for comparing models, but a frustrating one if you need predictable costs.
Think of Poe as a router with a meter on it. You pick a model per chat, and every message deducts points at that model's rate. Cheap models barely move the meter. Frontier reasoning models and video generators can drain it fast.
Nobody on our team ran hands-on tests for this review, so there are no stopwatch numbers or screenshots of our own here. We reviewed Poe as of late October 2026 using Poe's own plan page and Help Center, independent pricing trackers, published reviews and user reviews on Trustpilot and Google Play. Where someone else did the testing, we say who.
What is Poe AI?
Poe is built and run by Quora. According to Poe's FAQ, its bots "are powered by third-party companies that use large language models," and the platform bundles general-purpose bots from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and others, plus image, video and audio generators and "millions of unique user-created bots."
If you searched for "ai poe", "ai po" or "peo ai", this is almost certainly what you were after. Poe does not make its own frontier model. Its value is the layer on top: one interface, one login, one bill.
The lineup is current. Poe's about page lists GPT-6-Astra, GPT-6.1-Sol, Claude-Opus-5.5, Claude-Sonnet-5.5, Claude-Fable-5.1, Gemini-4-Argon, Gemini-3.8-Flash, Grok-4.7, Kimi-K3.1-Pro and Mistral-Large-4, along with image models such as GPT-Image-2.5 and Nano-Banana-2-Lite. The official bot pages, such as Claude-Opus-5.5 and GPT-6-Astra, say they are "powered by a server managed by" the model maker, so you are calling the vendor's model, not a copy.

Key features
Many models, one chat window
The core feature is model choice. You can start a chat with one bot, then call in another in the same thread to compare answers. The Google Play listing describes this as the ability to "combine and compare models in a single chat." For anyone who wants to check the same prompt against Claude, GPT and Gemini, this is the main reason to use Poe.
Points, budgets and cost visibility
Every bot shows an approximate cost for the first message and a "Rates" button with details, according to the Help Center. You can set a global per-message budget, or one per chat, and Poe warns you when a message would exceed it. One catch: the FAQ says the per-message budget "doesn't apply to official bots or bots built on them," which are exactly the expensive ones most people use.
Auto-manage context
Long chats cost more because the model re-reads history. Poe's "Auto-manage context" setting trims what is sent, prioritising recent messages, to save points. Poe says you can turn it off when the bot needs to remember the whole conversation, but warns that doing so "will increase the total points used per message" (Poe FAQ).
Group chats
In November 2025 Poe launched group chats with up to 200 people and more than 200 AI models in one conversation, TechCrunch reported. Chat history syncs in real time across devices.
Memory and temporary chats
Memory is off by default. When you turn it on, Poe updates it once a day from new messages and shares that context with most official bots, including Claude, GPT and Gemini, per the FAQ. It does not work in group chats or with user-created bots. Temporary chats are not saved and are not used by Memory.
Custom bots and creator payouts
Anyone can build a bot from a prompt, a knowledge base or their own server. UsagePricing reports that creators set a per-message price in points and are paid in US dollars, and can earn up to $20 per new subscriber their bot brings in.
OpenAI-compatible API
This is the feature engineers should look at. Poe's Creator Platform docs describe a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint that supports both Chat Completions and the Responses API, works with tools like Cursor, Cline and Continue, and uses "your existing Poe subscription points with no additional setup." In practice that means you can point existing OpenAI client code at Poe and swap model names to compare output and cost.
Shared subscriptions
Some plans let you invite family, friends or teammates to share your points. Each member can use up to 100% of the subscriber's pool, and only the subscriber can buy extra points, according to Poe's FAQ.
Poe AI pricing and plans
Poe's subscription plans page lists five paid allowances with annual prices. Monthly prices come from independent trackers UsagePricing and Omid Saffari, which match the App Store's in-app purchase list (App Store). Checked October 2026.
| Plan | Points | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | About 300 per day (reported) | $0 | $0 |
| Starter | 10,000 per day | $4.99 | $49.99 ($4.17/mo) |
| Premium | 660,000 per month | $19.99 | $199.99 ($16.67/mo) |
| Premium Plus | 1.65 million per month | $49.99 | $499.99 ($41.67/mo) |
| Pro | 3.3 million per month | $99.99 | $999.99 ($83.33/mo) |
| Pro Max | 8.25 million per month | $249.99 | $2,499.99 ($208.33/mo) |
Tier names vary by source and region; Poe's own page lists the allowances rather than names. Add-on points cost $30 per million, which is also the rate Poe uses to show the approximate dollar cost of points across the app (Poe FAQ). Unused subscription points do not roll over unless stated, per the Purchases FAQ.
Two pricing changes matter. First, the $19.99 Premium plan now shows 660,000 points a month. Earlier third-party guides reported about 1,000,000, so UsagePricing calls the cut "reported, not verified," but if accurate it is about a third fewer points for the same price. Second, the monthly pools are priced almost linearly: Omid Saffari's analysis works out about $30.30 per million points at every pooled tier, so bigger plans buy volume, not a discount.
Is Poe AI free? What the free plan really includes
Yes, Poe has a free plan, but it is small. Poe's Help Center says non-paying users "receive points daily, which reset at the end of each 24-hour period" and do not roll over. It no longer states an exact number. Independent trackers UsagePricing and DailyFix put it at about 300 points a day, which UsagePricing estimates at roughly 15 to 30 short messages on lighter models, down from about 3,000 a day earlier in 2026.
Subscribers get "access to the most cutting-edge bots," larger points pools and each bot's maximum input size and chat history, up to 2M tokens of context according to the Purchases FAQ. In other words, the free plan is a taster. It is fine for a few quick questions a day on a fast model, not for long documents or frontier models.
A worked example with numbers
Points only make sense once you convert them. Take three workloads on the $19.99 plan (660,000 points):
- Light chat: UsagePricing estimates a lightweight text model at about 10 to 20 points per message. At 20 points, 660,000 points is about 33,000 messages a month. You will not run out.
- Frontier reasoning: the same tracker says frontier models cost "hundreds to thousands" of points. At 2,000 points per message, you get about 330 messages, or 11 a day.
- The worst case: one Trustpilot reviewer reported being charged "over 27,000 points" for a single gpt-5-pro query (Trustpilot). At $30 per million, that is about $0.81, and 660,000 points covers only about 24 such messages.
The lesson: your model mix, not your message count, decides which plan you need. Check a bot's rates before you start a long thread.
Performance and independent testing
Because Poe routes to other companies' models, answer quality is mostly the quality of the model you pick. The questions that matter for Poe are speed, reliability and how well it wraps those models.
Perplexity AI Magazine rated Poe 4.3 out of 5 for professionals who use more than one model, calling it "excellent for comparison, ideation, quick prompt testing, bot exploration and light developer integration." It also noted the trade-off: native apps "often receive their deepest memory, workspace, coding, file, document and ecosystem features first," so Poe offers breadth more than depth.
Tools for Humans, which bases its score on reader ratings and community sentiment, gave Poe 3.5 out of 5. It summarised writers' feedback as mixed, saying models "respond slower here than at their native interfaces." That review was last updated in March 2026, before some of the pricing changes above.
On ratings sites, Poe's Trustpilot profile shows a TrustScore of 1.9 from 63 reviews, with 59% one-star, as of October 2026. Note that the profile is unclaimed and only 13 reviews are from the last 12 months. Zemith, a competing app, reports a 4.5 G2 score from 75-plus reviews, which we could not confirm directly because G2 did not load for us. The Google Play app shows 465K reviews and 10M+ downloads.
Where it breaks
- Cost spikes on big models. The most common complaint we read is points vanishing on a few frontier or video requests. A Google Play reviewer on the Starter plan wrote that "a single chat or video generation can consume a huge number of points" (Google Play).
- Charges for failed outputs. Several reviewers say they were charged for responses that never arrived, including the 27,000-point case above and a Play review saying conversations "don't go through, but it still charges you anyways."
- Daily expiry. Free and Starter points reset every 24 hours. As one Play reviewer put it, "you are wasting money if you don't use the app every day."
- Budget controls skip official bots. The per-message budget does not cover the official bots, so it will not protect you from an expensive Claude or GPT call.
- Not a full workspace. Reviews describe Poe as strongest at chat and comparison, with fewer of the native document, coding and agent tools that ChatGPT or Claude offer in their own apps.
Who it's for
| You are... | Poe fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Comparing models for work or research | Good | Same prompt, many models, one thread |
| A developer testing models via API | Good | OpenAI-compatible endpoint on your points |
| A light daily user of fast models | Good on Starter | 10,000 points a day goes far on cheap models |
| A heavy user of one frontier model | Weak | Points drain fast; a native plan is usually simpler |
| Generating lots of video | Weak | Media models cost the most points |

Poe AI alternatives worth considering
- Claude: if most of your Poe points go to Claude, a native plan gives you projects, connectors and coding tools Poe doesn't wrap. See our Claude AI review.
- ChatGPT: the same logic applies if you live in GPT models. Our Claude vs ChatGPT comparison helps you pick one, and our list of AI like ChatGPT covers other assistants.
- Direct API access: developers who want many models and pay-per-use billing can call model APIs directly or through a router. One Play reviewer called Poe "a massive premium on top of just using APIs on open router." This suits you if you are comfortable with keys and code.

Verdict
Poe does one thing very well: it puts nearly every major model behind one login and lets you compare them in the same chat. The model list is current, the API is genuinely handy, and group chats and shared subscriptions are useful extras.
The weak spot is the meter. The free plan has shrunk to a taster, the headline plan reportedly buys a third fewer points than before, bigger plans offer no volume discount, and frontier or video requests can eat a month's allowance in days. User reviews on Trustpilot and Google Play are dominated by those cost complaints.
Use Poe if you switch between models often, test prompts across vendors, or want a cheap Starter plan for fast models. Skip it if you mostly use one model heavily, generate a lot of video, or need predictable monthly costs. We rate it 3.5 out of 5.
FAQ
What is Poe AI?
Poe AI is a chat platform from Quora that gives you access to many AI models and bots in one app, including GPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, plus image, video and audio generators and millions of user-made bots. You pay with points, and each bot charges its own rate per message.
Is Poe AI free?
Yes, there is a free plan with a small daily points allowance that resets every 24 hours and does not roll over. Trackers put it at about 300 points a day, enough for roughly 15 to 30 short messages on lighter models. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month for 10,000 points a day.
Is Poe AI safe and private?
Poe says your chats with bots are private and not visible to other users unless you choose to share them. Memory is off by default, and you can delete all chats in Settings. Your prompts are still sent to the third-party model providers that run each bot.
Who owns Poe?
Poe is owned and operated by Quora, Inc., the company behind the Q&A site. Quora's CEO, Adam D'Angelo, has described Poe as a single interface for many models.
Is Poe worth $19.99 a month?
It depends on your model mix. At 660,000 points, it covers tens of thousands of messages on cheap models but only a few hundred on frontier models. If your busiest day stays under 10,000 points, the $4.99 Starter plan is better value.
