Grubby AI review 2026: pricing, detector tests and is it worth it?

Grubby AI is a fast, English-only AI humanizer with a 300-word free plan. Independent tests and strict refund terms make it a hard sell in 2026.

Grubby AI is a quick, easy rewriting tool, but its promise to beat every AI detector doesn't hold up in independent tests and its no-refund terms frustrate many users. Writers who just want a fast first pass on short, permitted AI drafts can try the free tier; anyone needing reliable quality, long documents or flexible billing should skip it.

Pricing Free (300 words/month); Essential $19.99 per 4 weeks or $8.99/mo annual; Pro $24.99 or $9.99/mo annual; Unlimited $29.99 or $12.99/mo annual; Enterprise $200 or $39.99/mo annual

Visit Grubby AI

I'll give you the short version first. Grubby AI is an English-only AI humanizer that rewrites AI-generated text so it reads less like a chatbot, with a free plan of 300 words a month and paid plans from $8.99 a month billed annually. It's quick and simple, but its headline promise, that your text will slip past every AI detector, doesn't hold up in the independent tests we found, and its no-refund terms catch a lot of people out.

Let me be upfront about how this review was made. Nobody at The AI Future ran Grubby AI through a hands-on test for this piece, so you won't find stopwatch timings or screenshots of my own runs here. Instead, I went through Grubby's official site, pricing page and terms, the published tests by other reviewers, two YouTube reviews and around 38 user reviews on Trustpilot, all as of late October 2026. Where someone else did the testing, I'll name them.

One more thing before we start. Plenty of people search for "grubby ai detector" or even "ai gubby" hoping for a magic invisibility cloak for homework. That's not what this review is for. Many schools, universities and publishers ban passing off AI-written text as your own, and Grubby's own terms list "cheating or academic misconduct" as a prohibited use. I'm looking at it as a rewriting tool for people who use AI to draft and want the result to sound like them.

What is Grubby AI?

Grubby AI is a web app from Study Solutions A16 LLC that takes text you paste in (usually from ChatGPT, Claude or a similar tool) and rewrites the wording, rhythm and sentence structure. The company says over 1.6 million students have used it, which tells you who it's mostly built for.

The marketing is loud. The homepage says "We beat every AI detector" and promises "99%+ human scores" on tools such as GPTZero, according to Grubby's own site. The pricing page goes further with a "100% Turnitin Bypass Guarantee — or your money back" banner, per Grubby's pricing page. I'll get to whether any of that survives contact with independent testing in a minute. Spoiler: mostly not.

Beyond the humanizer, GPTZero's review notes Grubby also offers smaller study tools, including a summarizer, a notes generator, a quiz maker and a flashcard maker. The newest add-on is AutoTyper, which is bundled with every paid plan.

A quick note on the "Grubby AI detector" search term: Grubby doesn't sell a stand-alone AI detector on its pricing page. It's a humanizer. Some users describe the app showing its own verdict on whether text would pass, but one Trustpilot reviewer found that verdict didn't match what ZeroGPT said about the same text, so treat any built-in score as a rough hint, not proof.

Key features

The humanizer and its three modes

The core flow is dead simple: paste, pick a mode, click, copy. Grubby's pricing page lists three modes, Simple, Standard and Enhanced, but only Simple comes with the cheapest Essential plan. Standard and Enhanced unlock on Pro and above. Grubby says it can humanize text "in 3 seconds or less" on its sign-up page.

Quetext's review describes the rewriting as mostly sentence-level: varying sentence length, swapping stiff word choices and making the tone more conversational. It says it works best on short content like blog paragraphs and email drafts, and that results "can become inconsistent on longer or more complex documents".

Detector targeting

When you sign up, Grubby asks which AI detector you're worried about, as GPTZero's reviewer found. The idea is that it tunes the rewrite for that checker. This is the bit I'm least comfortable with, because it frames the whole product around beating a specific test rather than writing better.

AutoTyper

Every paid plan includes AutoTyper words, from 5,000 a month on Essential to unlimited on Enterprise, according to the pricing page. Grubby's terms of service put responsibility for how you use AutoTyper output squarely on you, including "academic integrity policies". I'd read that clause twice before you rely on it for anything that matters.

Per-input limits

This is the feature nobody advertises loudly. Even paid plans cap how much you can paste in one go: 500 words on Essential, 1,500 on Pro and 2,500 on Unlimited and Enterprise, per Grubby's pricing. If you write long essays or reports, you'll be chopping them into chunks, and the tone can drift between chunks.

Language support

English only. Grubby's FAQ says plainly that it "can only humanize AI text in English". That's a real drawback for non-native writers who draft in another language first.

Grubby AI pricing and plans

Here's what Grubby charges, checked October 2026 on the official pricing page. One detail that's easy to miss: the "monthly" plans are actually billed every four weeks, so you pay 13 times a year, not 12.

PlanBilled every 4 weeksBilled annuallyHumanizer wordsMax per input
Free$0$0300 / month300
Essential$19.99$8.99/mo ($107.88/yr)10,000 / month500
Pro$24.99$9.99/mo ($119.88/yr)30,000 / month1,500
Unlimited$29.99$12.99/mo ($155.88/yr)Unlimited (30,000/day fair use)2,500
Enterprise$200$39.99/mo ($479.88/yr)Unlimited2,500

What the free plan really includes: 300 humanizer words a month. That's roughly one short paragraph or two, enough to see the writing style and nothing more. It isn't enough to judge how Grubby handles a full essay or article. Older reviews quoted smaller allowances (ChatAI Guide saw 150 free words in May 2026), so the number moves around.

The annual prices look tempting, and that's partly the point. The gap between Essential and Pro on annual billing is just $1 a month, and Pro gets you three times the words, triple the per-input limit and the two better modes. If you're going to pay at all, Essential is hard to justify.

The refund catch. Grubby's terms say "All purchases are non-refundable" except in narrow cases tied to price changes, and subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops future charges but doesn't refund the current period. That matters because surprise renewals and refused refunds are the single most common complaint I saw in user reviews. The Turnitin guarantee runs under its own separate terms, which I couldn't load when I checked.

Performance and independent testing

Since I didn't run my own tests, I leaned on three published ones. One big caveat: two of them come from AI detector companies (GPTZero and Originality.ai), who have an obvious interest in showing their own tools catch humanizers. Keep that in mind, but the pattern across all three is consistent.

GPTZero's test

In a test published by GPTZero, a reviewer generated a sub-300-word sample in ChatGPT, ran it through Grubby with GPTZero selected as the target, then checked the result against six detectors Grubby claims to beat. GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI and Copyleaks still flagged the humanized text as fully AI. Only ZeroGPT (18.3% AI) and QuillBot ("100% human-written") were fooled. Turnitin wasn't tested because individuals can't buy access to it.

Originality.ai's test

Originality.ai ran a ChatGPT piece on content marketing through Grubby and three detectors. Its own tool still gave 98% confidence the rewrite was AI. A second detector (Writer) rated the rewrite 100% human, and a third, which the article names as ZeroGPT in one place and GPTZero in another, dropped from 100% to 9.4% AI, so results clearly vary by tool and sample. The more interesting finding for writers: Originality said the rewrite "noticeably reduced the quality, flow and clarity of the text."

Quetext's assessment

Quetext was kinder on writing quality, saying the tool "works reasonably well" for short content, but pointed out that Grubby has no built-in plagiarism check, AI detection or grammar checking, so you still need other tools around it.

The bigger picture

Detectors are fighting back. Turnitin added "AI bypasser detection" in August 2025, and its chief product officer said humanizers "leave a statistical trace that can be learned and detected," as reported by Plagiarism Today. At the same time, no detector is perfect, and false positives on genuine human writing are a real, documented problem. We go through the evidence in is AI detector accurate? and explain the mechanics in how AI detectors work.

So where does that leave Grubby? Honestly, as a mid-quality paraphraser with big promises. If you treat it as a first-pass rewrite and then edit by hand, it can save a little time. If you treat it as insurance, you're buying something the evidence says it can't deliver.

Who Grubby AI is for

  • Content writers polishing short AI drafts who want a fast loosening-up pass before a proper edit, and who are allowed to use AI by their client or employer.
  • People with short, frequent rewrites (emails, product blurbs, social posts) who will stay under the per-input limits.
  • Anyone curious to compare humanizers, using the free 300 words without entering card details for a subscription.

Who should skip it? Students hoping to submit AI text as their own work, for a start: that breaks most academic integrity policies, Grubby's own terms prohibit it, and the tests above suggest it won't work reliably anyway. Also skip it if you write in a language other than English, work on long documents, or hate the idea of a non-refundable auto-renewing plan.

Grubby AI alternatives worth considering

  • Phrasly AI: a rival humanizer with a far stronger Trustpilot profile (4.7 from around 4,000 reviews, as listed next to Grubby's Trustpilot page). Choose it if user satisfaction and support matter most to you.
  • Walter Writes AI: another humanizer aimed at students and writers, with a similar 3.1 Trustpilot score from about 68 reviews, per the same Trustpilot listing. Worth a look if you want to compare styles side by side.
  • GPTHuman AI: a humanizer we've also reviewed, useful as a third data point before you commit money anywhere.

Verdict: is Grubby AI worth it?

Not really, at least not at the price and not for the reason most people buy it. Grubby AI is easy to use, fast and cheap on an annual plan. But independent tests found four of six major detectors still caught its output, one reviewer found it made the writing worse, and the strict no-refund, auto-renew terms generate a steady stream of angry reviews.

My rating is 2.5 out of 5. If you just want AI drafts to sound more like you, a careful manual edit (or a general writing assistant you already pay for) gets you most of the way without the baggage. If you do try Grubby, stick to the free tier first, pick Pro over Essential if you upgrade, and set a reminder to cancel before it renews.

FAQ

Is Grubby AI free?

Partly. The free plan gives you 300 humanizer words a month, according to Grubby's pricing page. Paid plans start at $8.99 a month billed annually, or $19.99 every four weeks.

Does Grubby AI bypass AI detectors?

Not reliably. In GPTZero's test, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI and Copyleaks all still flagged Grubby's output as AI; only ZeroGPT and QuillBot were fooled. Results vary by sample, and Turnitin now targets humanizer output specifically, per Plagiarism Today.

Is there a Grubby AI detector?

Grubby sells a humanizer, not a stand-alone AI detector, based on its pricing page. If you need to check text, use a dedicated tool and remember that every detector makes mistakes. Our AI detector roundup compares the main options.

Is Grubby AI legit and safe to pay for?

It's a real product from a registered US company, but read the terms first. Purchases are non-refundable outside narrow exceptions and plans auto-renew, per Grubby's terms. On Trustpilot it averages 3.1 from 63 reviews, with 39% one-star.

Can I use Grubby AI for school assignments?

Check your institution's policy before you do anything. Many schools ban submitting AI-generated text as your own, and Grubby's own terms prohibit using it for "cheating or academic misconduct". Using AI for brainstorming or feedback may be allowed where passing off its writing isn't.

What languages does Grubby AI support?

Only English, according to Grubby's FAQ.
