Prezi AI makes Prezi's zooming canvas fast to use and pairs it with strong audience and teaching tools. Live presenters, teachers and trainers should try it; people who mostly build data-heavy business slides should start with Gamma or a general assistant instead.

Visit Prezi AI (Prezi)

Here's the short answer: Prezi AI is the AI layer built into Prezi, the zooming-canvas presentation app. You type a prompt or drop in a PowerPoint, PDF or Word file, and it builds a full deck with structure, images and presenter notes. Prezi says that takes "under 8 seconds". It's free to try, it's genuinely good at making talks feel less like a slide-by-slide march, and it's still weaker than Gamma-style tools if what you mostly need is dense business slides.

I'll be upfront, because the style of this column is "tell you what annoyed me": nobody on our team ran a hands-on test of Prezi AI for this review. I didn't time any decks or take screenshots, so I won't pretend I did. Instead, we compared Prezi AI using Prezi's own product pages and help center, other reviewers' write-ups, third-party pricing trackers and about 30 user reviews, as of late October 2026. When someone else made a claim, I'll tell you who.

What is Prezi AI?

Prezi has been around since 2009 as the "not PowerPoint" option: instead of a stack of slides, you get one big canvas and the presentation zooms between topics. Prezi AI bolts a generator and an editing assistant onto that canvas.

According to Prezi's running 2026 feature guide (last updated September 2, 2026), you can start from a prompt, attach a PowerPoint, PDF or Word file for context, or paste a website URL so it pulls in your brand colors, fonts and logo. It then generates the structure, slide text, backgrounds, custom images and presenter notes, and lets you refine everything through a chat panel. Prompts work in any language OpenAI supports, and the output follows the language of your prompt.

So the pitch isn't "AI makes slides" (every tool does that now). It's "AI makes a Prezi", with the overview maps and zoom paths that used to take ages to set up by hand.

Key features

Prompt-to-deck generation and file import

This is the headline. You describe your talk, or hand it an existing deck or document, and it lays out a full presentation. Prezi's guide also lists stop, retry and resume controls for generation and parallel image generation, so a failed image doesn't hold up the rest. The independent picture is more mixed. A review by Presentations.ai (a competitor, so pinch of salt) found that "content tends to be generalized" and needs real editing before it's client-ready. That matches what a few Trustpilot reviewers say, which I'll get to below.

Chat editing, now with direct on-slide editing

Early versions of Prezi AI pushed you to fix things through the chat window, which is annoying when you just want to change one word. The September 2026 update changed that. You can now "edit directly on the slide, not just through chat": click a text box, resize it, change the font, drag images around with snap guides and arrow-key nudging. Inline edits keep your existing bold, color and sizing. There's also rewind to an earlier chat point, version history and highlights that show what the AI changed.

Honestly? That's the update I'd have wanted first. An AI editor you can't override by hand is a trap.

Themes, brands and Canva import

Prezi lists "16+ designer themes" that it picks automatically or you choose yourself, plus illustrated AI backdrops for its Mindmap and Journey overview layouts, parallax backgrounds, saved brands and Canva import, per its feature guide. Teams plans get "Your Designer", a custom AI designer trained on your company's brand assets, which Prezi sells through sales-assisted onboarding.

Audience tools: quizzes, polls and the themed room

This is where Prezi is quietly different from most AI deck makers. From the same deck you can run live polls, word clouds and Q&A, and generate quizzes from your slide content (AI-written by default, editable). The September update also added an audience "themed room" where viewers can hit "Explain this to me" for a plain-language breakdown, take a quiz, flip through flash cards, read a transcript or listen to a podcast-style audio version. Takeaways include PDF, PPTX and SCORM export for learning management systems.

If you teach or run training, that's a lot of value in one place. Prezi quotes engineering lecturer Fayza Hassan saying: "Instead of going to another link and back to my presentation, it's going to be in my Prezi presentation."

Presenting, video and integrations

You also get presenter mode, a Newscaster camera layout that shows you beside your visuals, narrated video with voiceover, viewer analytics and QR codes. Prezi lists integrations with Google Workspace, Slack, Figma, Confluence and Canva, plus a Craft MCP connection that lets Claude Desktop users create and import presentations. Decks can be built end to end on a phone, too.

Pricing and plans

Prezi's pricing is a mess to research, and I'll be blunt about that. Third-party sites quote very different numbers, and some look out of date. The figures below lean on Prezi's own August 2026 pricing comparison and its help center plan guide, filled in with Costbench, which last verified Prezi's prices on July 8, 2026. Check the live pricing page before you buy.

What the free plan really includes

Even Prezi's own pages disagree here. The help center lists 500 AI credits on the free Basic plan, but Prezi's pricing blog describes Basic as "watermarked exports, no AI credits, public-only sharing." What everyone agrees on is the bigger catch: free presentations are public. One Trustpilot reviewer complained that their free-plan projects were publicly searchable. Layer3 Labs sums it up well, calling the free plan "really a taster, not a working plan."

My advice: use Basic to see whether you like the canvas, never put anything confidential in it, and if it clicks, Plus is where the AI stops being rationed. Several user reviews (below) also mention unexpected trial and renewal charges, so set a calendar reminder if you start a paid trial.

Performance and independent testing

Here's the honest gap: I couldn't find a recent, detailed independent test that timed Prezi AI or scored its output on set prompts. The reviews I read were mostly research-based, just like this one. CognitiveFuture says outright that its August 2026 review is "a research-based evaluation rather than a sponsored hands-on trial" and treats Prezi's speed claims as vendor claims. So should you.

What the independent write-ups do agree on:

  • The canvas is the selling point. Dupple says Prezi suits educators, keynote speakers and sales teams who want "visually memorable, storytelling presentations," and fills a niche no other tool covers.
  • The AI isn't the market leader. Dupple also lists "AI features trail competitors such as Gamma and Tome" among its cons, and Presentations.ai says the visual quality depends heavily on the template the AI picks.
  • Charts are weak. Both Dupple and Presentations.ai point to limited charting, though Prezi's own guide now lists generated charts.
  • Motion can backfire. Dupple calls motion sickness "the number one complaint in user reviews." CognitiveFuture adds lag on large decks, especially on older machines, and notes that exports to PowerPoint or PDF flatten the zoom into static slides.

One more thing in Prezi's favor. Its September post says Prezi AI was named a G2 Leader for Fall 2026 in three categories, including AI Presentation Tools, based on G2 user feedback.

User reviews echo the same split. Several one-star Trustpilot reviews are about trial and renewal charges, and the AI criticisms are specific. One reviewer wrote: "The ai includes random photos on every presentation instead of asking if a photo is needed." Another said: "Ai did not follow but created similar topics." On the plus side, a recent Capterra reviewer wrote: "There's basically no learning curve which is awesome."

Who Prezi AI is for

  • Teachers and trainers. AI quizzes, flash cards, "Explain this to me" and SCORM export make it more than a deck maker, and EDU Plus is cheap.
  • Keynote and sales presenters. If you present live and want people to remember the story, the zooming canvas is the point.
  • Remote presenters. Newscaster mode and narrated video help when you're on camera.

It's a weaker fit for analysts and consultants who live in charts and tables, for teams that must hand over editable PowerPoint files (the motion gets lost), and for anyone who needs privacy on a free plan. If you're mostly chasing speed across your workday, our guide to the best AI tools for productivity covers broader options.

Prezi AI alternatives worth considering

  • Gamma. The tool reviewers most often say Prezi's AI trails. It's built around AI-first, scroll-style decks and documents. Read our Gamma AI review.
  • Genspark. An AI agent workspace that also generates slides, useful if you want research and a deck from one prompt. See our Genspark AI review.
  • ChatGPT or Claude plus your usual slide app. If you only need an outline and speaker notes, a general assistant may be enough. Our Claude AI review notes that Claude now includes a Slides feature on every plan.

Verdict: who should use Prezi AI and who should skip it

Prezi AI finally makes Prezi quick. The thing that always put people off (hours of fiddling with frames and paths) is now a prompt and a few minutes of cleanup, and the September update means you can fix slides by hand instead of arguing with a chat box. Add the quizzes, polls and themed room, and it's one of the more interesting options for anyone who teaches or presents live.

But it's not the best pure AI deck generator, its output can be generic, charts are a weak spot, and the free plan's public-only sharing is a real limit. The billing complaints are worth taking seriously, too.

My score: 3.5 out of 5 (features 8, ease of use 7, value 7, performance 7, out of 10). Use it if you present live and want movement and interaction. Skip it if you mostly build standard business slides, and try Gamma first.

FAQ

Is Prezi AI free?

You can try it on the free Basic plan, but Prezi's own pages disagree on whether Basic includes AI credits: the help center lists 500, while a Prezi blog post says none. Unlimited AI starts on Plus, which Prezi lists at $19 a month.

How does Prezi AI work?

You give it a prompt, a file (PowerPoint, PDF or Word) or a website URL for branding. It generates a structured presentation with text, images, backgrounds and presenter notes, and you refine it through chat or by editing directly on the slide.

Can Prezi AI make a presentation from a PowerPoint?

Yes. Prezi says you can attach PowerPoint, PDF and Word files as context, and the AI builds a Prezi from them. You can also export to PDF and PPTX, though zoom effects are flattened.

Is Prezi AI better than Gamma?

For live, interactive presenting, Prezi has more audience tools. For pure AI generation, independent reviewers such as Dupple rate Gamma's AI ahead. It depends on whether you value the canvas or the generator.

Are free Prezi presentations private?

No. Presentations on the free plan are public. If your content is confidential, you'll need a paid plan with privacy controls.

Is there a student discount?

Yes. Prezi's EDU Plus plan is $4 a month with a valid school email, according to Prezi's August 2026 pricing post.

What users are saying

We read 30 reviews: the 10 most recent on Capterra (September 2025 to August 2026) and 20 Trustpilot reviews from October 2025. Most praised the visuals and speed; the negatives centred on billing, too much motion and AI that ignored the brief. The Trustpilot sample is a year old, and Trustpilot's overall score is far lower than Capterra's or G2's.
