Flipped AI review 2026: pricing, free plan, filters and is it worth it?
Flipped AI is an 18+ character chat app with voice calls and AI images. We weigh its pricing, free plan, filter complaints and memory as of October 2026.

Our verdict on Flipped AI (flipped.chat)
Flipped AI is a capable character chat app with a strong builder and voice and image features, but confusing pricing, filter complaints and memory issues hold it back. Adults who love building characters can try the free tier and go yearly if it clicks; skip it if you want unfiltered roleplay, reliable memory or simple pricing.
Pricing Free to start; Flipped Plus $4.99/week, $9.99/month or $39.99/year; Platinum $9.99/week or $19.99/month; gems from $0.99 per 100
Visit Flipped AI (flipped.chat)Short version first: Flipped AI (flipped.chat) is an 18+ AI companion app where you build or pick a character, then text, voice-call and swap AI-generated pictures with it. It's free to download and start, but the good stuff sits behind two separate paywalls, a subscription and a gem currency. For most people that makes it a fun-but-pricey toy rather than something I'd tell you to pay for on day one.
Now the honest bit. Nobody at The AI Future ran a hands-on test of Flipped for this review, so you won't find screenshots, stopwatch timings or "I chatted with a vampire for three hours" stories here. Instead, I compared Flipped using its App Store listing, a detailed independent review, app-store rating trackers and user feedback, all as of late October 2026. Where someone else did the testing, I'll name them.

What is Flipped AI?
Flipped is an AI character chat app. You create a character (looks, personality, backstory, voice) or choose one made by the community, then talk to it like you'd talk to a friend, a date or a fantasy sidekick. People search for it as "flipped ai chat", "flipped chat ai" or "ai date chat", and the dating angle isn't an accident: the Android package name is literally com.dating.ai, and the current App Store listing calls it "Flipped: Chat with AI Characters 18+".
It isn't brand new. Global Dating Insights described Flipped back in July 2024 as an AI-powered social platform where users create AI characters and can also message and call each other. Since then it's grown a full browser version at flipped.chat, which is handy if you'd rather not install anything, according to AI Insights News.
Who's behind it is a little murky. The App Store lists the seller as SINGAPORE DESERT OASIS TECHNICAL PTE. LIMITED, with copyright to TellinTree Lab. A directory listing on AIGearBase names First Group Pte Ltd in Singapore instead, and AI Insights News noticed that Google Play and Flipped's own terms list different company names. G2's seller page doesn't help either: no headquarters, no founding date and zero reviews. Not a dealbreaker on its own, but it matters for an app you'll be telling personal things to.
One more thing to clear up: Flipped.chat isn't the same as Flipped.ai, a different brand that publishes its own AI newsletter. Same word, different products.
Key features
Here's what Flipped offers, based on the listing and independent write-ups, plus whether there's evidence each part actually works well.
Character builder
This is Flipped's strongest feature on paper. AI Insights News counted the limits: a private description of up to 2,000 characters, a public backstory of up to 2,000, a greeting of up to 300 and a name of up to 30, per its October 2026 review. The split between private instructions (what steers the AI) and a public bio (what other users see) is a smart touch. That reviewer gave customisation 4.5 out of 5, its highest sub-score.
AI portraits and images
You can generate character portraits from prompts of up to 200 characters, in three styles, with six images per prompt. Free accounts get a daily portrait allowance (AI Insights News saw "eight attempts left"). Paid tiers add in-chat AI photos: 3, 10 or 20 a day depending on the tier, according to the same review.
Voice calls and voices
Real-time voice calls and voice messages are part of the pitch, as Aixploria lists. Paid plans unlock 200+ custom voices and free call minutes each day (10, 20 or 40 by tier), per AI Insights News. Beyond that, calls and videos cost gems; one directory says 100 to 2,500 gems per item.
Memory
Flipped sells "long-term memory", and paid tiers boost memory capacity 2x, 5x or 10x. Does it work? Mixed. Memory slipping in long chats shows up as a con in AI Insights News' review, and an analysis of 49 app reviews by Marlvel found memory and context loss was the second most common complaint. One Google Play reviewer said they want "so badly to give this app five stars" but then complains the AI forgets things, as Grand Screen shows.
Chat tools
Smaller extras include message rewind, re-edit, reset, conversation sharing and export, according to Aixploria. Watch out, though: export is Platinum-only, per AI Insights News.
The "No Chat Filters" question
Every paid tier advertises "No Chat Filters". Yet Flipped's terms ban sexually explicit content, and a June 2026 independent audit cited by AI Insights News named aggressive filtering as the top user complaint. Marlvel's review analysis found the same theme: users say filtering and personality changes after updates limit the roleplay they used to enjoy. So "no filters" is marketing, not a promise you should pay for.
Pricing and plans
Flipped uses two money systems at once: subscriptions and gems. Here's the US App Store price list (checked October 2026).
| Plan or item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Ads, zero starting gems, daily portrait allowance |
| Flipped Plus | $4.99/week, $9.99/month, $39.99/year | Unlimited text, 2x memory, 3 AI photos and 10 call minutes a day |
| Flipped Platinum | $9.99/week, $19.99/month | 10x memory, 20 AI photos and 40 call minutes a day, message export |
| Gems | $0.99 (100) to $19.99 (2,500); bigger packs up to $99.99 | Spent on calls, videos and extras |
Prices come from the App Store listing; tier perks and the $99.99 pack come from AI Insights News, which also lists a middle tier, Gold, with 5x memory, 10 photos and 20 call minutes a day. Web prices may differ.
What the free plan really includes
You can sign up, build characters, chat and generate a handful of portraits without paying. Flipped doesn't publish a daily message limit for free users, but it sells "unlimited text" as a paid perk, which tells you the free tier is capped somewhere. You also start with no gems and you'll see ads, per AI Insights News. Older directory listings even disagree on whether there's a free plan at all: AIChief says no, while Aixploria calls Flipped "free to explore". In practice, think of free as a demo.
If you search "flipped ai chat free" or "ai chat no sign up", hoping to skip the account, I couldn't confirm any no-sign-up mode. The privacy policy collects your email, name, device IDs, IP address and location, according to AI Insights News.
Value check
The yearly Plus plan works out to about $3.33 a month, which is fair. The weekly plans are not: $4.99 a week is roughly $260 a year if you forget to cancel. Gems are worse value than they look. AI Insights News worked out an effective cost of $4.34 to $4.95 per 1,000 gems and said the "Best Value" label on the biggest pack doesn't hold up. And subscription fees are non-refundable under the terms. Some users also say they feel pushed to buy gems even with a premium membership, per Marlvel's review analysis.
Performance and independent testing
Since we didn't test Flipped ourselves, here's what others found.
The most thorough recent review is Sebastian Vale's for AI Insights News (October 12, 2026). He scored Flipped 3.7 out of 5: customisation 4.5, media tools 4, conversation 4, value 3 and privacy 3. That's a fair summary of the whole picture. Making characters is genuinely good, the chats are decent, and money and privacy drag it down.
App-store numbers look healthier than the written reviews. Marlvel's tracker shows 4.7 on iOS from about 10,100 ratings and 4.2 on Android from about 18,900. But when Marlvel analysed 49 recent reviews in detail, it labelled the overall mood "Frustrated" and scored sentiment 25 out of 100. That gap is common with companion apps: happy users tap five stars and move on, while unhappy ones write paragraphs.
The complaints cluster around three things:
- Filtering and personality changes after updates, despite "No Chat Filters" on paid plans (Marlvel).
- Memory loss in long conversations (AI Insights News, Google Play reviews via Grand Screen).
- Gems and payments, including a user who paid for a week's membership and then said the app "stopped working" (Grand Screen).
The praise is consistent too. Users like the character creation and persona tools (Marlvel), and one App Store reviewer called it "one of the best AI companion games I have tried". Another titled their review "VERY ADDICTING with a few annoying flaws", which might be the most honest one-line review of this whole category.
A word on "addicting". Companion apps are built to keep you coming back, and Flipped's weekly billing and gem prompts lean into that. If you notice you're spending more time or money than you planned, that's the design working, not you failing.
Safety and privacy
Flipped is 18+ under its terms, privacy policy and app-store listings, though older community guidelines said 17+, as AI Insights News points out. It's not for teens, full stop.
On data, the privacy policy (dated July 13, 2026) says data is encrypted in transit and at rest and stored in the US. What it doesn't say is whether your chat logs are used to train AI models, according to AI Insights News. Combine that with the unclear company name and I'd keep anything truly personal (real names, addresses, health or money details) out of your chats.
Who it's for
Use Flipped if you're an adult who loves building characters, wants voice calls and AI selfies in the same app, and you're happy with the yearly plan or a careful free trial.
Skip it if you want truly unfiltered roleplay (the filter complaints are loud), rock-solid long-term memory, clear refund rights, or a company you can easily identify. Also skip it if weekly billing and in-app currencies tend to get the better of you.
Flipped AI alternatives worth considering
- Character.AI: the best-known character chat app, with a huge library of community characters. Read our Character.AI review to see how it compares on filters, pricing and memory.
- Other companion apps: if Flipped's gem system puts you off, our roundup of Character.AI alternatives covers companion and roleplay apps with simpler pricing.
- A general assistant: if you mostly want someone to talk ideas through with rather than a "date", a mainstream assistant like Claude is cheaper per useful minute. See our Claude AI review.
Whichever app you pick, better character instructions get better chats. Our guide to writing better AI prompts applies to character descriptions too.
Verdict: who should use Flipped AI and who should skip it
Flipped AI does one thing well: it lets you build a detailed character and then talk to it by text, voice and picture, on the web or your phone. The private-versus-public character setup is thoughtful, and the yearly Plus plan is reasonably priced.
Everything around that core is shakier. Two spending systems, weekly plans, no subscription refunds, "No Chat Filters" marketing that users say doesn't match reality, memory that slips, and a company identity that changes depending on where you look. That's why I land at 3 out of 5, a bit below AI Insights News' 3.7.
My advice: try the free version, see if the characters click for you, and if you do pay, go yearly and skip the gem packs. If memory and freedom matter most, compare it with Character.AI before you spend anything.
